Kanjivaram
It is carefully crafted in silk obtained from the sericulture of mulberry worm. What makes these handwoven sarees so unique is their making.
These are known for the double tana -bana and for the legendary 1.2-inch wrap which can hold around 250–300 woven threads.
The silk is contrasted with real gold or #silver zari weaved into the saree in patterns usually inspired by local temples and artforms.
#Kanjivaram’s first presence dates back to the era of chola dynasty. It was however brought to attention during the 15th century when the city of Kanchipuram become the hub of silk manufacturing and trade.
It finally flourished and made its mark first during the French invasion and then was well-received and celebrated by the British.
Over the years, especially in southern India, Kanchipuram has become a mark of purity and sanctity and is thus mandatorily worn in many auspicious ceremonies including weddings.
